Instagram Blocked in Mainland China

Public Service Announcement!!

Instagram, one of the few social networks that were free from the Chinese firewall saga has joined Google, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and basically everything in Social Network Heaven or Hell. If you did not have the slightest idea, there's a great firewall in China that makes sure these networks are unable to work hence making life more difficult to deal with than it already can be.

Just yesterday I was going through my feed and it automatically stopped working, I began to wonder what the problem was and I just randomly switched on my VPN, and it went back to working, which in normal circumstances does not happen. I overlooked it and assumed it was just a glitch in the network and would soon be rectified.

Morning came and I tried checking again without the VPN and it still wouldn't work so the VPN comes on and just like that, it works. Which brought me to the conclusion that it indeed had been blocked right from yesterday. Assumptions weren't even given a chance, I did some research and have come to the findings that the Chinese government has a hand in this, obviously!

The central business district of Hong Kong are reportedly in their third day of a pro-democracy protest and it's getting heated up! Riot police have come into the scene and are targeting protesters with tear gas, pictures are swarming the internet like crazy and the Chinese government who are known for trying so hard to protect their image drastically pulled the plug on Instagram.

However, pictures are still finding their way to Instagram through the #OccupyCentral hashtag.
We do not know if this will be temporary or permanent, but in the meantime put them in your prayers.
Take Care, God bless x

Don't forget! you heard it here first.
